Sociology Department Travel Award

Purpose

To provide funding for Sociology Graduate Students to present academic research at professional conferences.

Amount: A total of five $100 awards will be available annually. Students may apply for only ONE award per calendar year. There will be one award available to be given in the Fall quarter, and 2 each available in Winter and Spring quarters.

If there is not a qualified applicant for one or more travel awards in a given term, those awards will be “carried over” and made available the subsequent term.

Application Deadline: Fall term: November 1st
Winter Term: February 1st
Spring Term: May 10th
Awarded: Applicants will be notified within 45 days of the application deadline.
Criteria
a) All travel awards are for out of state travel only.

b) Awards will only be granted for national or regional Sociology conferences, or related specialty fields (e.g., American Society of Criminology; American Public Health Association).

c) Student must not be receiving any other form of departmental travel support.

d) Applicant must have paper accepted at time of award.

Application Procedure
To received an award, students must submit the following materials to the development committee prior to the deadline listed above:
a) a cover page with name and contact information;

b) a copy of the paper to be presented;

c) notice of acceptance from conference;

d) a brief statement (250 words) about the relevance of the research to your academic career.
