Sociology Department Thesis Award

Purpose

The purpose of this annual award is to provide financial support to an outstanding sociology graduate student who is in the thesis writing stage in order to assist them in completing their master’s thesis.
Amount: A one-time award of $500.

Application Deadline: February 1st

Awarded: Award will be granted in March, during the second week of the Spring quarter.

Criteria
Applicants must:
a) be in their second year of the master’s program;

b) have finished collecting, or will finish collecting all data by the end of Winter quarter;

c) demonstrate a high likelihood of completing an outstanding thesis by the end of the Summer quarter;

d) have no other department funding for the term in which the award is made

Application Procedure
To receive an award, students must submit the following materials to the development committee by February 1st:
a) an approved thesis proposal;

b) an one-page letter of application (500 words or less) describing the contribution of their thesis to the field of Sociology, and their progress toward completing the thesis;

c) a letter of recommendation from their thesis chair.
