Other Research and Creative Achievements
Starting in 2006, developed research partnership/community coalition with staff at the Multnomah County Health Department (Chronic Disease Prevention Program), Portland Public Schools (Clarendon Elementary School), City of Portland Parks & Recreation (SUN Community School), and the Latino Alliance. This Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) coalition’s work addresses issues of childhood nutrition/physical activity. In 2006, HEAL was awarded a 4-year Alliance for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Nutrition (APPAN) grant from the Northwest Health Foundation (NWHF).
With Dr. Melanie Arthur (Sociology, PSU), developed research partnership with Opening Doors, a community organization in Washington County, Oregon, that assists high risk, low-income women obtain prenatal care. 2002-2003.
In conjunction with teaching Sociology 595: Research Practicum, collaborated with community partner (Neighborhood Health Clinics) to do research on new element of their practice. 2001.
In effort to facilitate research partnerships, regularly attended and participated in informational sessions, grant preparation meetings, lectures, and banquets at Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research (CHR), Portland, Oregon. 1999-2000.
